You do need to take care of your hair while wearing a wig. Your natural hair is part of you. The wig is not. You also need to take care of your wig, but more on that later.

1)

You need to wash your hair regularly. Cher wears a lot of wigs, but she still takes care of her natural hair. Sweat is going to get into your scalp. It is important to keep your scalp clean and healthy with or without the wig. Wash your hair.

2)

Wigs can suck the moisture out of your hair. Humidity can too. Keep your head moisturized. Take off your wig as soon as you get home. Spray some water on your hair. Pat the water in and let it sit. Do not put your wig back on. Extra moisture on the wig is bad. You should do this a few times a week. It all depends on how much you are wearing the wig.

3)

Do you have long hair? You might want to try braiding it. Tie the braids before you put your wig on. This is going to reduce the bumps on your head. It will also reduce the chances of your hair becoming matted from the wig.

4)

Do you have dandruff or dry scalp? Take some anti-fungal oil, such as tree oil, and apply it to your scalp. Massage it in. That will create a moisture barrier inside your scalp. You need to take care of your hair and head.

FYI:

You should let your head breathe during the day. Pick a time. Take off your wig for a few minutes to let your head breathe. The oxygen is going to do it well.
