Human hair extensions have been around for decades. With each passing year, hairstylists, beauticians and individual consumers are creating new uses and trends that enhance beauty and expresses individuality. While hair extensions are available as loose hair or on a weft, and are traditionally sewn or braided onto the scalp, there are new trends that are emerging that introduces creative uses for hair extensions. These styles are created to provide the illusion of naturally grown hair – not weave. By using these new techniques to install hair extensions, not only are ladies keeping up with the current trend in hair, they are also better able to disguise the hair it extensions and portray themselves as having naturally-grown, long, flowing hair.

Crochet hair styles are very popular because they offer the maximum versatility and there are virtually undetectable as hair extensions because they look, feel and act like natural hair- from root to tip. In order to install crochet hair, the hair on the scalp is braided in cornrows. Loose hair extensions are then attached to each braid using a crochet needle and hooking technique. The hair is not permanently attached. Secured with a knot that is hidden by the hair, small sections of whose hair are added a few at a time until the entire head is covered. Once finished, the hanging hair can be combed, curled and styled in the same way that natural, kinky, untreated hair is.

In the case that straight-textured hair is preferred over kinky hair, then there is a new trend that allows hair extensions to be glued to the hair so that each individual strand is attached separately. This technique involves purchasing hair secured on a weft and adhering the hair with a strong hair glue. The glue is placed directly on the scalp and the hair extensions are aligned on top of the glue. The part of the hair that is glue down does not include the weft. In fact, the weft is only used to keep the hair in place until secured. Once the hair is in place, the weft is cut away completely, and what is left is bonded hair that appears to be growing from the scalp.

Regardless of whether you prefer kinky straight hairstyles, human hair extensions are now being used to create the most natural look possible. The trick to maintaining this style is to treat it like normal hair. This means that washing and conditioning the hair regularly, while maintaining the style from day to day, is necessary in order to keep it looking good.
